so you think you can shop?!
So you think you can shop? Prove it and win at Blue Route Mall!
Are you a retail therapy expert? A savvy shopper? A brilliant buyer? Then prove it by entering Blue Route Mall’s ‘So You Think You Can Shop’ competition for the chance to win one of two Kia Picantos worth over R130 000 each!
Want to drive off with a win? Then you’ll need to shop your way there first. Simply spend R250 or more at the centre from Monday 16 July onwards to enter the draw. The more times you spend the qualifying amount, the more entries you’ll receive. On Monday 6 August we’ll be drawing our first set of 10 finalists – but if you don’t make it, carry on entering, as our second set of 10 finalists will be drawn three weeks later, on Monday 27 August.
Once the finalists have been drawn, that’s where the fun starts! That’s because each set of 10 finalists will then battle it out against each other to take ownership of one of the two brand-new Kia Picantos up for grabs. The first set of finalists will be playing for their Picanto on Saturday 11 August, while the second set will have their turn on Saturday 1 September, both starting from 7:00am.
To lay claim to a Kia, all the finalists will have to do is keep one hand in constant contact with the car for as long as possible. It sounds easy enough, but even the slightest break in concentration could be enough to see them sent home empty-handed. But, if you’re able to put mind over matter and prove your determination and stamina to the very end, you’ll be the ones with not just your hands on the car, but the car itself!
The competition will be running for six weeks at Blue Route Mall, and in that time there will be plenty of other prizes to play for. Keep an eye on the Blue Route Mall Facebook page for details, and whether you’re one of our shoppers, or part of our grand prize audience, you’ll have the chance to win fabulous prizes throughout the competition period.
As you can see, if you’re looking to win this winter, there’s no better place to be than Blue Route Mall. So start your engines, show us you can shop, and you could soon be taking the chequered flag with your very own Kia Picanto!

#banthebag supported by Two oceans aquarium and rethink the bag
Ban the bag with Blue Route Mall
How many plastic bags do you think you use in one year? Ten, twenty, maybe thirty? In fact, South Africans as a population use approximately 8 billion plastic shopping bags per year – which equates to 140 bags per person. 140 bags that can each cause untold damage to wildlife, marine life, and the environment as well.
It’s for this reason that the Two Oceans Aquarium first launched their ‘Rethink the Bag’ campaign in 2010, as a way of increasing awareness of plastic pollution, and decreasing the use of single-use plastic bags – with the ultimate objective of creating a plastic shopping bag-free South Africa.
In support of the Rethink the Bag campaign, Blue Route Mall will be running an initiative over the months of June, July, and August, designed to encourage shoppers to look to plastic bag alternatives. In the spirit of making more sustainable choices, Blue Route Mall will be motivating customers to bring in 10 clean plastic shopping bags at any time from 18 – 24 June, 2 – 8 July and 13 – 19 August. In return, each customer will receive a branded Blue Route Mall reusable shopping bag, with which they will be able to shop responsibly going forward.
All of the plastic bags donated to the cause will in turn be gifted to the H18 Foundation – an NGO based in Milnerton whose goal it is to uplift, empower, and upskill unemployed women from the Joe Slovo Informal Settlement and surrounding areas. By using the plastic bags donated from shoppers, the women of the H18 Foundation will be able to weave items such as mats and furniture covers, which will in turn be sold in the H18 Coffee and Craft Shop, giving new life to plastic, and new hope to those in need.
Additionally, the centre will also be monitoring the sales of plastic shopping bags over the next three months and beyond in order to decrease the mall’s usage as a whole. All stores that commit to no longer selling or offering plastic bags will receive a plaque that they will be able to display to customers. Similarly, any stores that would like to work towards a plastic bag-free environment will receive the full support of the centre, in the form of simple, achievable step-by-step guidelines with the input of both Mall Management and the Two Oceans Aquarium.
While the move away from plastic shopping bags is a change from current practices, it nevertheless represents a very necessary transformation – one that is vital for the long-term sustainability of our environment. As such, Blue Route Mall is looking to both tenants and shoppers alike to embrace the campaign and help contribute to its success.
International Shopping Bag Free Day is being celebrated on 3 July, and Blue Route Mall will be actively supporting this initiative, with the Two Oceans Aquarium exhibiting in the centre from 29 June to 1 July in the lead-up to the day. Additionally, the aquarium will also be on hand every step of the way to support the mall’s move to a plastic shopping bag-free environment. Here’s to all of us at Blue Route Mall making new choices for a brighter, more sustainable future!
exciting new developments taking place
In keeping with its commitment to offering customers the ultimate in retail experiences, Blue Route Mall will soon be welcoming a number of new tenants to the centre, promising shoppers more choice than ever before.
To begin with, fast-casual dining favourite Burger King will soon be coming to the food court, while popular gifting venue, The Crazy Store, will be opening its doors next to Sportscene on the first floor. Tekkie Town will be launching their newest store next to The Fix, while FNB’s new smaller branch is currently under development, with FNB trading out of their mobile bank next to Entrance 1 until all preparations are complete.
The decrease in the size of the FNB branch will allow a larger Totalsports store to open in the mall, with Totalsports relocating next to FNB as a result. Not only will Totalsports be taking up part of the old FNB branch, it will be taking over the spaces previously occupied by Gadget Time and Ralo Cosmetics as well, allowing for a bigger and better Totalsports experience.
Similarly, Due South will also be enlarging its premises, while Archive will be introduced to the tenant mix, and Gadget Time will be moving to a larger space next to Tribakery.
While the number of wallpapered shopfronts may seem to indicate vacancies or store closures, in fact the opposite is true. The growing tenant mix at Blue Route Mall promises a wealth of choice and excitement thanks to the diverse range of new stores, redevelopments and movements planned for 2018. With more to look forward to than ever, Blue Route Mall is further cementing its position as a retail venue of choice, giving customers a quality shopping experience unlike any other.
